Washington DC IFC Delegation Impressed by KTDA Mini Hydro Power Projects
Philippe Le Houérou (centre), International Finance Corporation (IFC) Executive Vice President and CEO, is shown KTDA-processed black orthodox tea by Lucy Nyakiore, Marketing and Business Development Manager KTDA. Houérou, who is based in Washington DC, led a high-powered delegation from IFC to review progress of IFC financed projects. KTDA is currently constructing 13 small hydropower projects partly funded by IFC and the team was impressed by the progress. The IFC team met KTDA-H CEO Lerionka Tiampati, KTDA Finance and Strategy director Benson Ngari and KTPC General Manager, Lucas Maina.

KTDA (H) Recruits Young, Energetic Graduates to Join Factory Workforce
EAGER TO LEARN...KTDA (H) management trainees being inducted at Jumuia Hotel, Limuru on July 6, 2016. The Agency has recruited 48 fresh graduates to join KTDA (MS)workforce. The trainees, who were selected on a competitive basis, will be on-job-training for two years before being elevated to Production Assistants. The training enables trainees to have comprehensive knowledge and understanding of KTDA (MS) and KTDA (H) business operations while gaining hands-on experience in tea processing.

KTDA Imports 74,800 Metric Tons of Fertilizer For Tea Farmers
FOOD FOR TEA BUSHES...KTDA Senior Manager Agriculture Services Peter Mbadi (left) and Corporate Affairs Manager Egadwa Mudoga inspect packaging of NPK fertilizer in 50 kg bags at the Port of Mombasa. The first batch of 38,000 tons of the total 74, 800 fertilizer imports arrived on July 8, 2016. The remaining batch is expected to arrive early August. Application of fertilizer to tea bushes ensures high quality and quantity of green leaf.
The Kenya Tea Development Agency Management Services has this year imported 74, 800 MT of NPK fertilizer for small scale tea farmers. This year, the Mombasa landing cost for a ton of fertilizer is USD 214.43 compared to USD 353.88 last year, representing a 65 per cent decrease.

TEA FARMERS EARN A RECORD SH 84 BILLION IN REVENUE

Kenya Tea Development Agency Management Services Limited (KTDA - MS) has announced a record
KSh84 billion revenue for smallholder tea farmers for the 2015/16 financial year, compared to 63.5b earned in the 2014/15 financial year. This represents a 32.2% increase in earnings for smallholder tea farmers. Of the Kshs 84 billion, Kshs 61.99 billion revenues 75% will be paid out to smallholder tea farmers at an average total rate of Kshs 50.26 per kilogram of green leaf delivered to KTDA - managed factories. The balance of 25% covers the costs of production

Region 5 Tree Planting Drive
KTDA Region 5 directors and staff plant trees in a wetland area during a recent tree planting drive in Bomet County. The exercise, also attended by the Bomet deputy county commissioner, was the culmination for the region's drive to plant more than 50,000 indigenous trees in support of environmental conservation.

Cheybei Water Spring Protection
Rorok Tea Factory and the Initiative for Sustainable Landscapes (ISLA) recently rehabilitated the Cheybei Springs in Bomet County. The spring was rehabilitated through fencing, planting indigenous trees and constructing community water collection, animal watering and clothes washing points.
